Oakland

Oakland, California is a large city with many neighborhoods. FoodPool is pleased to have two FoodPools established, and more on the way.

Oakland is a city with many strengths and many weaknesses. Our beautiful, mediterranean climate allows a wide range of fruits and vegetables to be grown 12 months a year. We have a huge community of kind, caring people and people have a tremendous awareness of food, health, and nutrition issues.

On the other hand, we also have a large population that doesnt know where their next meal may be coming from as well as "food deserts," where produce isn't available. The City has been dealing with a tremendous fiscal crisis for several years now and is having difficulty attending to the needs of its citizens.

We hope that FoodPool can play a role in feeding those in need and strengthening our diverse communities.

If you can help in any way, or just want to be on our mailing list, please use the mailing list subscription form. To contact any of the neighborhood FoodPools, please use our contact form.

FoodPool Montclair:
             Leader - Andrew Sigal

The Montclair District of Oakland, California is the birthpalce of FoodPool and the nursery for the idea.

The Montclair FoodPool is supplying fresh garden produce to the Telegraph Community Center, located at Telegraph Ave. and 54th St. in Oakland. The Telegraph Community Center is a member partner of the Alameda County Community Food Bank. They are a food pantry, providing free groceries to those in need. They help to supply food to 1200 people each month. FoodPool is excited to be able to help them in this work.

The response by our clients has been overwhelmingly positive! The variety and quality of the produce we are able to make available because of your generosity gives our clients a great choice in providing nutritious meals to their families.  Thank you so much."
