Volunteering with FoodPool

We are so excited that you are interested in volunteering with FoodPool. Please contact us using our Contact Form, and be sure to sign up for the mailing list.

Here are some of the best ways to help FoodPool

#1 - Start a FoodPool! The number one way that you can help is to Start a FoodPool in your neighborhood. Ideally FoodPools are small, local, neighborhood-based groups. They should be easy to start, fun, and easy to run. Starting a FoodPool should not be a huge commitment for you – if it is, you're thinking too big. You do not need to have a garden or fruit trees of your own to start a FoodPool. If you live in a neighborhood where there is surplus produce, then that's a neighborhood that needs a FoodPool. By launching a FoodPool you are doing a huge service for your community, even if none of that food comes from your own home.

#2 - Spread the Word! If you can't start a FoodPool, the next most valuable thing that you can do is to spread the word. We dream of seeing a FoodPool on every street, in every neighborhood, in every country on earth (how's that for thinking big!) To achieve this vision of FoodPool Everywhere, we need leaders everywhere – anything you can do to help future FoodPool leaders find us is a step towards our vision.

#3 - Follow FoodPool! Another simple way that you can help FoodPool is by "liking" our page on Facebook and "following" us on Twitter. So-called "Social Media" are... social. Organizations that have thousands "following" them on social media sites get more attention than those with just a handful, and are more likely to get additional followers. This creates a chicken-and-egg scenario for young organizations attempting to get their message out. We need "followers" to get "followers." With just a few clicks you can raise FoodPool's profile in the online world.

#4 – Share your skills! We are thrilled to have you assist FoodPool with all the talents, enthusiasm, and time that you can spare. In particular we are looking for:

  • Web development and maintenance
  • Writers
  • Legal services
  • Introductions to publishers and editors at newspapers and magazines, both local and national
  • Introductions to policy makers, celebrities and public figures, at both local and national levels, that can help promote FoodPool
  • Individuals who can assist with creating and developing FoodPool’s relationships with media, garden clubs, cooking schools, policy makers, anti-hunger activists, and so on.
  • The unique talent that you have that I forgot to mention. Let us know how you would like to help.

Thank you!
